Headed by the Aggie Replant student organization Replant Day is an annual fall event in which hundreds of Aggies unite to plant trees around the local community. In 2013 Replant expanded its service mission by planting thousands of pine seedlings in Bastrop State Park after it was decimated by wildfires. These efforts in addition to maintaining beautiful trees all across campus have helped Texas AM become a Tree Campus USA honoree by the Arbor Day Foundation. At our campus chapter of the national home-building charity organization student volunteers join in the effort to provide housing for families in need and increase poverty awareness. From raising the first wall to handing over the keys Aggies are involved in every step of the process. DIVERSITY INCLUSION Diversity Inclusion TAMU VG 2015.indd 21 81915 332 PM 22 Aggies are known as the 12th Man because they remain standing throughout football games as a gesture of loyalty support and readiness. The tradition started with E. King Gill whose readiness to play in the 1922 Dixie Classic symbolized the unwavering willingness of Aggies to support their team. Texas AM is known nationally as the Home of the 12th Man. HISTORY TRADITIONS Once an Aggie Always an Aggie. Being part of the Aggie Network means you are connected to the university for life and The Association of Former Students will help you maintain and benefit from that connection. The most enduring symbol of the Aggie Network is the Aggie Ring youll have an instant bond with anyone you meet whos wearing one. THE AGGIE RINGREVEILLE Texas AMs mascot is Reveille an American collie and the highest ranking member of the Corps of Cadets. In 1931 a group of cadets found a stray dog and brought her to campus. The next morning the dog barked when the bugler played Reveille and her named was coined. Today Reveille IX lives on campus and goes everywhere with her cadet handler. THE 12TH MAN History Traditions TAMU VG 2015.indd 22 81915 332 PM 23 The Aggie Spirit is more than just a feeling its also a sound the sound of thousands of Aggies yelling in unison to support the team. When the Yell Leaders take to the field and lead yells before the 12th Man youll never hear anything quite like it. Itll be one of the most exciting and memorable experiences of your college life. Youll perfect the yells at Midnight Yell Practice which happens at Kyle Field the night before each home game. The stadium lights up the night sky as tens of thousands of Aggies stand before the Yell Leaders and get pumped up to Beat The Hell Outta the opposing team. Bring a date if youd like because at the end the lights go out and Aggies kiss their dates just like they do when the team scores a touchdown. One of the oldest traditions is Silver Taps the final tribute held on the first Tuesday of every month for any student enrolled at Texas AM who passed away in the previous month. Aggies gather in silence hymns chime from Albritton Bell Tower the Ross Volunteers Firing Squad fires three volleys buglers play Silver Taps three times all are part of this sacred tradition. SILVER TAPS AGGIES DONT CHEER WE YELL Muster is the tradition that binds us with the spirit of thousands of Aggies who have gone before. An annual remembrance Muster is observed in more than 400 places worldwide with the largest ceremony here on campus. At night when each name on the Roll Call for the Absent is read a friend or family member answers Here and a candle is lit to symbolize that while those Aggies are not present in body they will forever remain with us in Aggie Spirit. In our third year in the Southeastern Conference SEC Texas AM once again proved to be formidable opponents across the board with the majority of our teams making it into post-season play. This was also the 10th straight season that our athletic program finished in the top 25 in the Division I Learfield Sports Directors Cup rankings based on over- all performance by all sports teams a testament to the success of our athletic programs and the hard work done by our student-athletes and coaches. A few highlights from Texas AMs post-season include Aggie soccer earning the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Champion- ships and their first-ever berth in the College Cup mens tennis reaching the Elite 8 and womens swimming and div- ing winning its ninth straight top 10 fin- ish. It was also the ninth straight season in NCAA Outdoor Track Field that the Texas AM Athletics The annual release of the Academic Progress Report NCAA APR demonstrated Texas AMs commitment to success in the classroom and graduation as we surpassed the required NCAA standard in all sports. We also had 65 student-athletes graduate during May commencement which speaks volumes about the programs dedication to academic success. TEXAS AM ATHLETICS women finished in the nations top four and the men in the top six. Aggie womens golf reached the NCAA Championships as did womens basketball for the 10th straight season and softball for the 14th straight season. For drama nothing could top Aggie baseballs super-region- als and for making school history Aggie football won its fourth straight bowl game.
