Replant is one of the largest student-run, environmental service projects in the nation. This tradition was born out of an idea by Aggie Scott Hantman to replenish some of the trees cut for the annual Aggie Bonfire. In the spring of 1991, Hantman, along with 40 volunteers, planted hundreds of trees in the Bryan-College Station community. Over the years, Replant has developed into a full Student Government Association committee that works year-round coordinating the event.
Each year, hundreds of trees are planted at local parks, schools, and more by thousands of student volunteers from Texas A&M.
Replant’s efforts left the Bryan-College Station community for the first time in February 2013, as the organization extended its reach of service by becoming the first university to take part in the Lost Pines Forest Recovery Campaign. The campaign aims to replant trees in order to help Bastrop State Park’s continuing recovery from the devastating forest fires of 2011. Over a span of two weekends, more than 450 Texas A&M student volunteers planted just over 9,000 pine saplings in the park.
