My Prostate and Me: Dealing with Prostate Cancer
William Martin and Peter T. Scardino, M.D.

With the aging of the baby boomer generation, the
incidence of prostate cancer is anticipated to rise to
previously unknown levels in our society. How helpful it
is, therefore, to have a book like this to demystify the
experience of diagnosis and treatment.

In clear, highly readable, often humorous prose, William Martin uses his own successful experience combating this frightening cancer as a vehicle for conveying current medical information about the disease and its treatment. With remarkable candor, he shares the depression and fear he faced as he contemplated the choices before him.

Written with sensitivity and humor, this book will provide any man diagnosed with prostate cancer a full measure of encouragement and guidance. This was the intention of the author. As Martin comments, "I felt it would be useful for other men diagnosed with this damnable disease to have a book that could be read in an evening, would provide them with a great deal of the information they want and need, and would leave them with a strong sense of optimism and hope regarding the future."

The lengthy afterword by Dr. Peter Scardino, Chief of Urology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City - fully updated in this edition - provides current scientific information about the disease and its treatment from one of the world's leading specialists in prostate cancer.
