Trademark Licensing at Texas A&M

Texas A&M University Trademark Licensing Art Guidelines

The Office of Trademark Licensing will review all requests for the following:

  1. The University's marks are to present a positive image.
  2. The University's name and/or marks are not to be used in a way that could state or imply an endorsement, in advertising services, in the name of a business or logo, in a web address or website.
  3. Unless otherwise provided for in written agreement(s); where sponsorship is provided to Universitydepartments and or Recognized Student Organizations, University logos may be used. But, sponsor(s) names and University logos must appear on opposite sides of the item, such as shirts, caps, koozies, etc.
  4. The University Seal and the Ring Crest is restricted from use on items which could be construed as University documents or publications such as: checks, certificates, rubber stamps, and anything which could appear to be a University document, publication, or advertisement. The University Seal and the Ring Crest may not be defaced, altered, overprinted, or dismantled in any manner.
  5. Uses of the University's marks associated with alcohol, tobaccos, condoms, gambling products, or items which could be used to maim, kill, or that could present a high liability exposure will not be licensed. Examples are knives, guns, cigarette lighters, or incorporation of the University's marks with merchandise, i.e., "Aggie Lite."
  6. Uses of the University's marks on noise makers will not be licensed.
  7. Uses of the University's marks on license plates which could be confusingly similar to the State of Texas College License Plates will not be licensed.
  8. The University reserves the right to decline licensing those items which are not a part of the traditions and/or customs of Texas A&M University. These items include: cheerleader uniforms, cheer teams, megaphones, pompoms, pennants on sticks, and the slogan "Go Aggies." The tradition is to say "Gig'em Aggies."
  9. It is the policy of the University to prohibit the use of any of its symbols, insignia, or other identifying marks in connection with partisan political activity of any kind.
  10. All licensees must use the appropriate "TM" or ® designation on products with the University marks on them. The "TM" or ® should be placed under the mark, to the right, and should be smaller, in order to not take away from the appearance of the mark of the University. Attachment A of the License Agreement and the Trademark Licensing Art sheet depicts the appropriate designation for each mark.
  11. Texas A&M University is one of over 100 institutions which are a part of the Independent Labeling Group. The designated label representing this group must be on all items or hang-tags produced by the licensee along with the licensee's name appearing on the item, the label sticker on the item, on a hang-tag, or on the box or packaging if the item is retailed in that box or package.
  12. The "A&M" in Texas A&M University must always be presented without spaces between the three characters. Example: "A & M" is incorrect.
  13. Uses of the University's marks associated with certain other mark(s) and/or words will not be licensed. Examples are profanity, ethnic/gender/religious slurs, words and/or phrases with double meanings. Art that is "degrading," "demeaning," "in poor taste,"or make disparaging remarks about other institutions will not be licensed.
  14. Use of Texas A&M University marks associated with Aggie Muster is prohibited in the retail market and are used exclusively by the Texas A&M Muster Committee.
  15. Samples of products must be submitted to the Licensing Resource Group (LRG) for review and approval for the application process before they can be produced or sold.
  16. All art designs, modification of previously approved designs and products bearing the marks of Texas A&M University must be submitted to the Office of Trademark Licensing for review and approval before they can be produced, reproduced or sold.
