The Professional Program in Biotechnology at Texas A & M University
Welcome to the home page of the Professional Program in Biotechnology at Texas A&M University. The program administers the Master of Biotechnology (MBIOT) degree. The MBIOT is a non-thesis graduate degree that combines laboratory based science training with course work in business, finance, marketing and accounting.
The Master of Biotechnology (MBIOT) degree program at Texas A & M University is designed to provide the skills to be successful in today's biotechnology industry. Students have to complete a core curriculum comprised of laboratory-based and lecture-based courses in molecular biology and genetics as well as courses in Finance, Management, Accounting, Journalism and Marketing. The students also have the flexibility of taking electives such as Project Management, Genomics, Molecular Detection, Negotiations, Bioinformatics, Organizational Behavior, Public Policy and International Finance. In addition to the courses at Texas A&M University, the students have to complete a mandatory 10- week professional internship in a Biotechnology firm.
The MBIOT program is supported by graduate faculty from the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Veterinary Medicine, and College of Science. The Biotechnology Industry Advisory Council made up of leaders from the Biotechnology Industry advises the program so that it remains responsive to the needs of the industry.
