SMTP-Relay Configuration

The following important configurations should be noted:
MaxMessageSize=52428800
This limits the size of messages that the system will accept to 50MB.

SMTP AUTH
All TAMU users can configure a single out-going SMTP server, regardless of being on- or off-campus or their ISPs SMTP servers by making use of SMTP Authentication (AUTH). The usernames and passwords are your NetIDs and respective passwords. As with all areas where NetID use is possible, the connection MUST be encrypted (the option to use will be listed as "TLS" or "STARTTLS"). If your client supports it, please use the alternate MSA port 587.

Greylisting
A method used to block spammers using "drive-by" spamming techniques. For several detailed descripions, please see the Greylisting description page.

SPF
We are not yet publishing SPF records, but we are considering them in the SPAM scoring process.

The following RBLs are in use for blocking problem messages:
  • dsn.rfc-ignorant.org
    See http://www.rfc-ignorant.org/. Used to ensure returnability of any message that comes into our system, only systems that refuse bounce messages are listed since the senders would not be notified of delivery failures by those hosts.

  • relays.ordb.org
    See http://www.ordb.org/faq/. Reject mail from known abused open-relays.
