We are pleased that you are considering or have already chosen history as your major. The faculty members, advisors and staff in the Department of History extend a warm welcome to you and know that you will find the study of history to be exciting, challenging, and rewarding.  The size and diversity of its faculty allows the Department of History to offer to its majors a wide range of classes together with opportunities to specialize in a variety of areas. There is a strong emphasis on reading, writing, and research skills. The Department of History at Texas A&M University provides undergraduates with a baccalaureate program leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree.  What are some of the benefits of a History degree?  The study of History requires the acquisition of a unique skill-set which will equip students for a very wide variety of careers.  Poised between the humanities and the social sciences, the study of history demands the capacity to think clearly and incisively, the willingness to evaluate evidence objectively and impartially - and marshal that evidence in support of particular arguments, and the ability to write fluently, attractively and persuasively.  We are supremely confident that our majors who acquire these skills will be successful in whatever career they choose.
