IMPORTANT LINKS FOR TEACHER CERTIFICATION
Teaching is one of the oldest of all
professions, and the teaching of history one of the most
important specializations. A strong society depends for its
flourishing upon the extent to which its members have been
well-grounded in a broad awareness of history of various kinds
- local, national and general. A sound and balanced
understanding of American history is obviously necessary for
the continued healthy functioning of an effective democracy at
home. But equally necessary is an acquaintance with world
history in the widest sense - an awareness that the human
journey has had (and will continue to have) many pasts and a
many contexts. Teachers sustained by a broad historical sense
will be able to instill in their students a sense of the
richness of the past and of the many possibilities for the
future.
