Glenda Gilmore is Peter V. and C. Vann Woodward Professor of History at Yale University. Her first book, Gender and Jim Crow: Women and the Politics of White Supremacy in North Carolina, 1896-1920 (University of North Carolina Press, 1996), won numerous awards, including the Frederick Jackson Turner Award presented by the Organization of American Historians. She is also the editor of two additional books, Who Were the Progressives (2002) and Jumpin’ Jim Crow: Southern Politics from Civil War to Civil Rights (2001). Among her many honors was a Guggenheim fellowship in 1999.
