Laura F. Edwards is Professor of History at Duke University, where she also serves as Director of Graduate Studies. Her research focuses on women, gender, and the law in the American South in the nineteenth century. She is the author of Gendered Strife and Confusion: The Political Culture of Reconstruction (1997) and Scarlett Doesn't Live Here Anymore: Southern Women in the Civil War Era (2000), both published by the University of Illinois Press, as well as 16 articles and book chapters.
