Texas A&M has two primary
methods of reporting faculty (see below) unless otherwise noted
all faculty data included in this Fact Book reflect numbers from
TAMU Faculty as Reported by the Academic Departments.
Instructional Faculty
Reported to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board:
Includes all faculty members who were reported to the THECB. This
includes each person who has a faculty appointment for the fall
semester. Faculty who may be on leave, research faculty, librarians,
and administrators are included if they have faculty appointment
or if they are paid from faculty salary funds. All faculty, including
teaching assistants who are teaching a course reported to the
THECB are also included. This data reflects conditions as of the
official census date of the fall semester.
TAMU Faculty as Reported
by the Academic Departments: Includes all faculty associated
with an academic department; may include research faculty, extension
faculty, agency faculty, tenured faculty who are University administrators,
etc.
CB Rank:
Faculty member rank as defined by and reported to the Texas Higher
Education Coordinating Board.
- Ranks of Professor,
Associate Professor, Assistant Professor,
and Instructor only include faculty with tenure
or tenure track.
- Other Faculty
includes faculty without TAMU tenure and not on TAMU tenure track.
Including, but not limited to, adjunct, special, visiting, and
lecturer.
ETHNIC ORIGIN: Indicates
the ethnic origin of the faculty member. Faculty are classified
as "International" if they are not citizens of the United
States but are in the United States on a temporary basis and do
not have the right to remain indefinitely. Non-citizen faculty members,
who are lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or Resident Aliens,
are reported in the appropriate racial/ethnic category along with
United States Citizens.

Full-Time/Part-Time
Status: Faculty
member's status based on budgeted percent of time in relationt to
a full or normal workload at Texas A&M. Full-Time are individuals
budgeted full-time or 100%. Anyone who is budgeted for less than
100% is considered to be Part-Time (see also Teaching FTE
below.)
Galveston: Represents
the Interdisciplinary Galveston department (INTG). These are TAMU-Galveston
faculty paid to teach main campus students temporarily at the Galveston
campus.
Head Count: A
count of faculty where each individual is counted once. This is
in contrast to the Teaching FTE (see below) which
may be less than one.
Retired Tenure: Faculty
who had tenure at Texas A&M before they retired, but who were
still teaching courses during the reporting semester (see also Tenure
below).
TAMU Rank: Texas
A&M Faculty rank, broken down into more distinct groups than
the CB Rank, based on Personnel title codes.
Teaching FTE: Faculty
member's percent of time paid to perform the teaching functions.
Note that the Teaching FTE may often be smaller than the Budgeted
FTE which is used to compute faculty Full-Time/Part-Time
States see above). A faculty member may be Full-Time (Budgeted
FTE = 1.0), but only 80% of their salary is from teaching salaries
making them 0.80 FTE Teaching.
Tenure: Faculty
who have received tenure.
Tenure Track: Faculty
holding an appointment eligible for tenure.
