	Genetics and Biochemistry Enrichment Experience

GaBEE: A program for freshmen in biochemistry and genetics. The goals are to:

ease your transition to College
introduce you to each other
introduce you to your bcbp mentor
provide you with the opportunity to develop a social and academic network of friends
introduce you to the officers in the Bioethics Forum and the Biochemistry and Genetics Society
provide information on some of the student services offered by TAMU
provide you with useful hints on how to succeed from students and faculty,
warn you about pitfalls, and
introduce you to various career options in medicine, research and industry.

Freshmen and transfer students enrolled for the first time at TAMU must attend GaBEE events.
GaBEE begins at 5:30 PM in room 108 of the Biochemistry Building and is follwed at 6 PM by pizza and discussion.
The peer advisors are available each week for tutoring in CHEM 101 and BIOL 111.

Monday August 28	GaBEE Scavenger Hunt organized by the Peer Advisors. Find out where everything is on Campus! 5:30 PM at the Biochemistry Building. Pizza at 6:30 PM.
Monday September 4	How to ace freshman Chemistry and Biology 5:30 PM - Large Group discussion: Stay focused -- why are we here? It's not High School anymore! College is a 9 - 5 job. Time management - have balance in your life. Reward yourself, take time for yourself Develop good study habits Go to class! Set realistic goals Hints about TA's Go to SI - it really works! Get to know your professor 6 PM - pizza and small group discussion led by the peer advisors. Tutoring in CHEM 101 and BIOL 113 led by the peer advisors.
Monday September 11	How to adjust College 5:30PM - Large Group discussion: Campus life: parking, dorms, bikes personal safety, dorm security, alcohol and drugs student societies library where to nap 6 PM - pizza and small group discussion led by the peer advisors. Tutoring in CHEM 101 and BIOL 113 led by the peer advisors.
Monday September 18	How to succeed in college 5:30 PM - Large Group discussion: *Student Counseling Service,* Learning Skills and Career Counseling 6 PM - pizza and small group discussion led by the peer advisors. Tutoring in CHEM 101 and BIOL 113 led by the peer advisors.
Monday September 25	What comes after A&M? 5:30 PM - Career opportunities. Quality of life issues How to prepare for: Careers in Research -- how to find a research lab -- student panel Careers in Medicine -- former student Careers in Industry -- former student 6 PM - pizza and small group discussion led by the peer advisors. Tutoring in CHEM 101 and BIOL 113 led by the peer advisors.
