The "trinitatis" series
E. Meyer - 2000
A search of data bases revealed striking, improbable occurrences of repeat amino acids in proteins. An especially appealing structure is the Human T-Cell Leukemia Virus Type II Matrix Protein (buried knot; 1AG8), which contains a Cys-Cys-Cys trimer buried in the interior of the protein.

This cysteine tripeptide was modeled and sculpted in the "trinitatis" series, using Texas white oak, Texas pecan, bird's eye maple, soft maple, and cherry. Experimenting with pre- and post-machining treatment of wood, several pieces were treated with ACRYLOID B-72 dissolved in acetone. A 2-inch plank of dry, native white oak was sculpted and then soaked several times (with slow drying); a small amount of checking occurred but was internally stabilized by further treatment.
Pieces below were finished and lightly sanded,
then waxed and polished.
Sizes are given in inches (1 inch = 2.54cm)
