Basic Courses of Military Science
121. First Year Basic
I. (1-3). Credit 2. I, II
Provides basic understanding of the Armed Forces: Organization
of the Army, Department of Defense, and customs and traditions
of the service; introduction to marksmanship: safety principles,
good shooting habits, introductory marksmanship training,
and weapons qualification. Leadership laboratory: leadership
training and development, and drill.
122. First Year Basic
II. (1-3). Credit 2. I, II
Principles of emergency first aid; introduction to principles
of military map reading: map marginal data, topographic
symbols, universal transverse mercador coordinate system
and distance measurement. Leadership laboratory: continuation
of MLSC 121.
221. Second Year Basic
I. (2-3). Credit 3. I, II
Military leadership, communications skills, career opportunities
for junior officers in the U.S. Army, weapons familiarization,
introduction to squad-level tactics, individual combat
skills, guest speakers. Leadership laboratory: individual
movement techniques.
222. Second Year Basic
II. (2-3). Credit 3. I, II
Continuation of squad-level tactics, battle drills, basic
first aid and CPR, continuation of weapons familiarization,
introduction to operational planning. Leadership laboratory:
individual and team-level combat skills, first aid.
Advanced Courses of Military
Science
321. First Year Advanced
Military Science. (3-1). Credit 3. I
Fundamental leadership and management principles: military
communications; counseling techniques; management skills;
operation orders; ethics and professionalism; and the dynamics
of leadership. Leadership laboratory: leadership training
in drill, command and responsibility.
322. First Year Advanced
Military Science. (3-1). Credit 3. II
Fundamentals and dynamics of the military team: small
unit tactics, field communications, planning operations,
application of principles of offensive and defensive operations
to the infantry platoon; preparations for advanced summer
training. Leadership laboratory: Continuation of MLSC 321.
421. Second Year Advanced
Military Science. (3-1). Credit 3. I
Advanced principles and dynamics of the military team:
command and staff relationships, organization for military
operations, logistical support for combat operations, and
training management. Leadership laboratory: training management
and ceremonies, professional development seminars.
422. Second Year Advanced
Military Science. (3-1). Credit 3. II
Advanced leadership and management: unit administration
procedures, supply procedures, the Army readiness program;
military law and jurisprudence, military communications;
ethics and professionalism; obligations and responsibilities
of the professional officer. Leadership laboratory: Continuation
of MLSC 421.
485. Directed Studies.
Credit 1 to 3. I, II
Directed study of problems in the field of military science.
Prerequisite: Junior or senior classification with approval
of department head.
