General Studies Program
Many students prefer to postpone choosing a major
until they have an opportunity to experience a variety of courses at
Texas A&M University. The General Studies Program, a division of
the Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Programs and Academic
Services, is designed for freshmen who enroll in the University before
accessing or declaring a field of major interest. The advisory staff
assists each student in selecting courses that will fulfill basic requirements
while the student explores potential majors or attempts to meet grade
and course requirements for particular majors. General Academic Programs
serve the needs of the students who change majors into the program because
they wish to change from one degree-granting department to another, but
are uncertain as to the proper major or course work to meet competitive
requirements.
The keynote of General Studies is flexibility.
Once a student has had the opportunity to explore potential majors, and
has discussed options with an advisor in the General Studies office,
the student will be better able to make an informed decision in declaring
a major. Students enrolled in the General Studies Program are expected
to have identified a major field of study no later than the time they
have completed four semesters of college-level work (60 semester hours).
Because the interests of individual students
vary, only a suggested first year curriculum is shown below. Courses
for following semesters are selected in consultation with a member of
the advisory staff in the General Studies Program.

Provisional Admission Program
Students accepted for participation in the
Provisional Admission Program are required to complete a full schedule
of course work with a 2.0 GPR and no failing grades. The list of possible
courses includes: ENGL 104, HIST 105 and 106, MATH 102 and 103, POLS
206 and 207, PSYC 107 and SOCI 205. Some students may be required to
include a study skills course or a developmental course. When all course
and grade requirements have been met, the student will be granted full
admission to the University and may seek admission to a specific academic
major.
The Blinn TEAM Program
The Blinn TEAM (Transfer Enrollment to A&M)
Program is a collaborative effort between Texas A&M University
and Blinn College. Students who are offered the opportunity to be considered
for the Admission's Wait List are also offered the opportunity to be
considered for the Blinn TEAM Program. Those students selected for
the program will take three to five hours at A&M and nine to twelve
hours at Blinn College. If they complete 15 hours at A&M with a
3.0 and 45 hours at Blinn with a 3.0, they will successfully complete
the program.
TEAM students are able to access most student
service programs on both campuses. They can apply for on-campus housing
at A&M and can participate in the Corps of Cadets. If they are
eligible for financial aid, they can receive financial aid through
Blinn College based upon their combined hours from both schools. If
TEAM students complete the program successfully, they will automatically
become full-time students at A&M without an additional application
process.
