Requirement in Political Science (Government)
and History
In
order to meet the legal requirements for a baccalaureate degree,
all students must have at least 6 credit hours in political
science (government) and at least 6 credit hours in American
history. POLS 206 (American National Government) and POLS 207
(State and Local Government with emphasis on Texas) fulfill
the political science requirement. Both the political science
and American history requirements may be met, in whole or in
part, by equivalent course work satisfactorily completed at
another accredited college or university.
State law permits the substitution
of 3 hours of history and 3 hours of political science for a student
in the program of an approved senior ROTC unit. With the approval
of the dean of the appropriate college, students successfully completing
the required 12 hours of upper-level ROTC courses will be deemed
to have completed the equivalent of Political Science 206 or 207
plus History 105 or 106 (or another appropriate course) for a total
of 6 hours.
Students in the College of
Liberal Arts may not substitute upper-level ROTC courses for this
requirement. Students pursuing teacher certification are not allowed
to substitute ROTC credits for this requirement.
