The following curricula lead to a Bachelor of Science degree
in Kinesiology. There are several tracks designed to prepare
students for a wide variety of careers such as public school
education, sport management, outdoor education and exercise
science. The Division also provides training for students interested
in health-related professional schools, e.g., physical therapy,
occupational therapy, physicians' assistant or medicine. There
are 82 hours of course requirements that are common for all
career choices. The additional hours for each track are specifically
designed to prepare students for that field of study. The following
are common freshman- and sophomore-level courses. The sequencing
of these courses should be determined in consultation with
an appropriate academic advisor.

**Physical Education/Teacher Education
This program is offered to students who wish to teach
physical education in public or private schools. Students
seeking teacher certification have two options. The secondary
certificate requires two teaching fields (physical education
and one other) and qualifies the recipient to teach in
grades 7 through 12. The Pre-K through 8 certificate qualifies
the recipient to teach in grades preschool through eighth
grade in physical education/wellness only. After the completion
of course work, students are required to complete a full
semester of student teaching in a public school setting.

Option
Pending Approval by the Texas Higher Education
Coordinating Board
This 128-hour option is offered to students wishing
to teach physical education in public or private
school. The all-level certification qualifies the
recipient to teach in grades preschool-12th grades
in physical education/wellness only. This degree
plan includes a full semester of student teaching
in a public school setting after the completion
of course work. The proposed degree plan will provide
a program that will lead to successful completion
of the certification requirements outlined by the
State of Texas. Additional program information
is available on the Department of Health and Kinesiology
website hlknweb.tamu.edu or by contacting the advising
office in the department.
Exercise Science Track
This track is offered to prepare and educate students
who wish to enter the field of exercise science. Students
are exposed to a strong science background making them
excellent candidates for employment opportunities in exercise
related areas (cardiac rehabilitation, corporate or private
fitness), advanced graduate studies (motor behavior, exercise
physiology), or professional school (medical, dental, occupational
therapy, physical therapy). Course prerequisites for medical,
dental, occupational therapy or physical therapy professional
schools are included in the various programs of study under
this track. All health and kinesiology majors must consult
with an academic advisor.
