Curricula in Kinesiology

The following curricula lead to a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. There are several tracks designed to prepare students for a wide variety of careers such as public school education, sport management, outdoor education and exercise science. The Division also provides training for students interested in health-related professional schools, e.g., physical therapy, occupational therapy, physicians' assistant or medicine. There are 82 hours of course requirements that are common for all career choices. The additional hours for each track are specifically designed to prepare students for that field of study. The following are common freshman- and sophomore-level courses. The sequencing of these courses should be determined in consultation with an appropriate academic advisor.

Physical Education/Teacher Education

This program is offered to students who wish to teach physical education in public or private schools. Students seeking teacher certification have two options. The secondary certificate requires two teaching fields (physical education and one other) and qualifies the recipient to teach in grades 7 through 12. The Pre-K through 8 certificate qualifies the recipient to teach in grades preschool through eighth grade in physical education/wellness only. After the completion of course work, students are required to complete a full semester of student teaching in a public school setting.
